My two daughters could not be more different. One is a fireball that attacks life with gusto. The other is more thoughtful, a perfectionist with an iron will. They both run cross country and track. It’s here that I find many business and life principles lived out.
My oldest daughter is a heart runner. She runs from the depths of her soul and pours out onto the course every bit of her strength and drive. Races have literally ended with her collapsed just past the finish line.
My youngest daughter is a head runner. She calculates the speed at which she needs to run to be at a certain point by a predetermined time in the race. She knows her abilities and those of her teammates and makes decisions based on external factors.
Both are very good runners. They are successful because they are true to themselves. (I learned when they were very young that what worked for one did not work for the other which led to some creative parenting!)
How do you approach your business?
Are you a heart runner? Do you attack things with gusto and grit – never giving up or in?
Are you a head runner? Do you calculate the risk and reward when plotting your course?
Of course, some of you are likely a mixture of the two, but you likely lean a little more one way than the other. It’s important to understand that one is not better than the other. They are different ways of reaching the same goal.
Finding out if heart or head is your driving force helps you in designing the life and business you want. Some approaches will resonate better with you. Choose the ones that are true to YOU.
