One of my favorite, all-time television shows is “The Twilight Zone.” I love the twisted logic and humorous takes on human foibles. I adore seeing youthful actors, who later rose to fame in some other show. But mostly, I love the stories.
My husband and I delight in quoting lines from movies and television in real life situations. The Twilight Zone quotes pop up frequently. A lesser known episode, “The Big Tall Wish” features a down and out [literally] boxer who, as the show opens, is counted out by the referee. Watching the fight on TV, a six-year-old neighbor boy makes a big tall wish that his hero, Bolie won the fight. The child’s wish is granted. Bolie is declared the winner.
When Bolie returns home, the boy tells him what happened. He admonishes the boxer, “You gotta BELIEVE!” [SPOILER ALERT: skip to next paragraph if you don’t want to know what happens. ] Bolie knows what really happened in the ring. He was really knocked out and is a loser. He just cannot bring himself to believe that he could win.
In order for the big wish to become permanent, Bolie is required to believe. The entirety of the child’s wish is dependent on the complicit agreement of a grown man.
Have you ever had a big tall wish for your business?
Something you really, really want it to come true? What if that wish was granted? Would you believe it or would you look at past failures and just know it couldn’t be true? Would you deny that it’s possible? Would you “know” in your heart of hearts that YOU could never be that lucky?
Just like Bolie, you gotta BELIEVE! Believe in the plan. Believe in your mentors, recruiters, and upline leaders. Believe that it is possible. AND most important of all, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!! Just like in “The Big Tall Wish” you must believe first.
